Fun Awards :)

Fabulous Falen passed on the Sugar Doll Award to me.
Awwww... thanks.

And then Al gave me the Beautiful Blogger Award

Sweet muffins!

You're supposed to do 5 unusual facts for the Sugar doll and 7 interesting facts for the Beautiful Blogger, so I'm going to combine them, because I can't differentiate between unusual and interesting and I don't know if I can come up with 12 things.

1. The middle finger on my left hand got broken by being closed in a sliding van door when I was fifteen. Except I didn't know it was broken, so we didn't do anything and now my finger has a permanent bend in the top third of it.

2. I took a drawing class just to fulfill a Fine Arts requirement in college and loved it so much I took 2 semesters of drawing and 2 semesters of painting where I discovered my love for watercolors. I haven't done much recently and I'm not that great, but I think it's beautiful and I should really pull my paints out again. I just love the fact that I discovered it by accident.

3. I make a mean sausage gravy and biscuits. Probably my favorite thing to make and eat. Mmmmm... I can feel my arteries hardening even as I think about it.

4. I worked as a historical interpreter in a living history museum for a season. It was the BEST. JOB. EVER. But it didn't pay and had no benefits, so I had to enter the real world. So much fun to dress up every day, learn tons of cool facts and get to play with drop spindles, broom making and natural dyes. I still look back on it with great fondness and hope to do volunteering at a place like that once I get through school.

5. I grew up as a PK (Pastor's Kid) and I love it. My church family is just about as important to me as my flesh and blood family. But I never really felt pressure to act a specific way or be held to a higher/different standard than any of my friends that weren't PKs.

6. I was homeschooled my entire life. We kind of backed into it because we had no other options, but I am extremely grateful to both of my parents for all of the work they put into me and my siblings. I can't imagine having done it any other way.

7. When I start to like something or someone I tend to get slightly obsessed with it and go a little crazy accumulating connected stuff - And I don't ever regret it. (examples would include Lost [of course], A Series of Unfortunate Events, Firefly, Dr. Horrible, Gail Carson Levine, Ted Dekker, etc. etc. etc)

So there you have it - 7 random facts about me.

And now I will pass the Sugar Doll award on to.....

Dangerous With a Pen because she makes me smile

Jenn because I want her to do another post

And I will pass the Beautiful Blogger Award on to....

Y.F.N. Palindrome aka Hannah because she has the longest screen name ever and I love her blog

M.R.J. LeBlanc because she is another new friend who made me smile

This is awesome... Gratz on both awards. I have to ask, how does one get into the running on these things? (I ask because I am still somewhat new to this community but I am trying.)

I approve of all of these but I especially identify with you on number seven.

Sonshine—My ego! It swells!

Hahaha. Thanks so much for the award. I am already thinking about 7 random facts that I can share.

Look for the post in the next few days!

I am so extremely jealous of your home-schooled-ness. I knew a girl in University who was also home-schooled, and she was one of the most intelligent and well-rounded people I have ever met. And she was also a PK! BUT—alas, her name wasn't Sonshine! But I think the impression I get from those I've met who were home-schooled is that you don't just get academic lessons, but also lessons that instill strong family values. And I admire this! What an awesome post! It's so fun to get to know blogging friends!

@Frank: Ummm... As far as I know you are eligible by having a blog. Then someone passes one on to you when they get one. I think that's it. The more blogs you troll on the greater chance you'll get one. It's unexpected and kind of crazy. I can't believe half the time that people actually think of my blog when they want to pass on an award. Weird, but welcome :)

@Jenn: You're welcome. Well, you said these give you a reason to post ;)

Hey, I have a finger that broke and I didn't know it and now it's crooked, too! It's the pinky on my left hand. :O

Hey, Sonshine! That was an enjoyable and informative read. One question: I think you've said that you live in upstate New York. Was the living history museum you worked at by any chance Old Bethpage on Long Island? My husband and I visited there once, and we were very impressed with it. Wichita, Kansas has Old Cowtown Museum, but it is a recreation of life in Wichita around 1870. Old Bethpage is a recreation of a much earlier time, and the re-enactors that we saw in 1986 did an amazing job. It was high summer when we went there, time to make hay, so that's what the farm hands were busy doing. And to everyone reading this, if you've never been to Old Bethpage, I heartily recommend a visit.

Rebecca T. said...

@Marebabe: No, that wasn't the one I worked at, but I will definitely have to check it out sometime.

I am still slightly unwilling to give away my exact location (you see, I work for the government and if I told you I'd have to kill you.... :P)

But maybe someday I shall reveal more.

That's cool. :) By the way, after I posted my previous comment, I was curious about what Google or Wikipedia had to say about it. I found out that it's much easier to access if you have the name right, which I didn't at first. I had forgotten that it's properly referred to as Old Bethpage Restoration Village. And if you go, for heaven's sake, wear sensible shoes. Lots of walking, as the buildings are far apart. I learned that lesson the hard way.

They had whole families there as re-enactors, which makes sense, because Colonial America was inhabited by families. Anyway, one of my most outstanding memories from our visit was in the village store. There were a couple little girls in there, and the woman behind the counter asked them, "Are you supposed to be in here?" And one of the girls said, "Well, I finished the churning." It was charming, and felt very authentic.

I also have an example of NOT authentic. This one happened at Old Cowtown in Wichita. Larry and I spent a long time one day chatting with the demonstration blacksmith. This was back when Larry was just beginning to learn about it, and he had a ton of questions. The blacksmith re-enactor told him that he could find some real bargains on parts for his forge on eBay! I just think that's hilarious. I'm pretty sure the conversation wouldn't have gone there if there had been a whole crowd of spectators. But there wasn't. It was just us.

Rebecca T. said...

@Marebabe: That's really funny about the blacksmith...

The one I worked at was more set during the mid 1800's, but it is not based on an actual town, so we had a little more flexibility as to what we did. One of the things I loved about it was that they would let my younger brothers and sisters dress up and come in with me. We all had a lot of fun.

I am so completely like this! I have so many little collections (in addition to all my big collections...). It drives my wife nuts.

@Teebore: Yeah, I have so many collections I could do an entire post just about my collections. I should DO that sometime. Hmmmm...
